The options

What counts as team building in San Francisco?

Most Bay Area team events fall into six formats: cooking and food (classes, chocolate and wine tastings), craft workshops (glass, pottery, terrariums, candles), escape rooms, games and bars (ping-pong, mini golf, VR, golf bays), scavenger hunts and city games, and outdoor outings on the water. A few organisers run volunteering days and improv workshops.

Prices are per person unless a card says otherwise. Escape rooms are the cheapest on this list, about $39–$48 a head; cooking classes and tastings cost the most, about $90–$235. Some kitchens and boats quote one price for the whole group.

How to book

How booking a team event works

Getting a real, all-in quote is the slow part. Start two to four weeks out.

Where the time goes · about 2 h

  • Briefing 10 min
  • The activity 1 h 10
  • Wrap-up 10 min

  2. Choosing between scents215 min

    Pick a format

Quiet teams do better making or tasting something; competitive teams like rooms and games.

  3. A team at work31–2 days

    Get all-in quotes

Ask two or three operators for one price per person including room fees, tax and gratuity.

  4. Finished pieces from a team session42–4 weeks ahead

    Book and confirm

December fills first; for a fixed date in Q4, book four to eight weeks out.

Teams that won’t travel

Several operators bring the activity to your office, so nobody crosses town at 4 pm.

Comes to you

Maybe skip it if the only slot is after 6 pm on a weekday, or a third of the team is remote and would get nothing: pick a daytime slot or a format with kits for remote people.

Room fees, tax, gratuity and a “materials fee” can add 20–40% to a headline price. Ask for it in writing.

Thursday and Friday slots in December are usually gone by early November. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are easier.

Who runs them

Chains and independents

Mostly independent kitchens, studios and venues, with a few escape-room and game-bar chains and companies that run hunts or come to your office. The biggest chain runs 5 of the 59 locations.

Questions

Asked before booking

How much does team building cost per person in San Francisco?

The typical starting price on this list is $65 per person (the median of the prices operators publish). Escape rooms start around $39–$48; cooking classes and tastings run about $90–$235. Some kitchens and boats quote one price for the whole group, so divide by your headcount.

What’s the cheapest team building in the Bay Area?

Escape rooms and game venues, from about $39 per person on this list. Volunteering organisers such as Project Open Hand are listed too; check their terms for corporate groups.

What works for 50 or more people?

Hunts and city games, the larger game venues and some studios and kitchens. Each listing page shows the group size the operator publishes.

Can they come to our office?

Some can. Several craft hosts and event companies on this list run sessions at your office; their listing pages say so.

How far ahead should we book?

Two to four weeks for most formats. For a fixed date in November or December, book four to eight weeks out.

What works on a cold or foggy day?

Escape rooms, cooking classes, craft studios and indoor game venues. Save sailing and kayaking for calmer, warmer afternoons.

How did you pick these?

We list every operator we found that sells team or private group events in San Francisco and the wider Bay Area and publishes enough to book. A person read each operator’s own page on 25 October 2026 and copied the price as printed; where only a booking site showed a price, the listing says so.

Is WeekHere connected to any of these?

Yes, one: WeekHere is published by KraftStories, which runs craft workshops for teams. Its listings are marked “Our studio” and sorted like every other. No operator pays to be listed.
