One card per location, sorted by starting price. Prices are what each studio prints for its standard public session; the range runs from the smallest piece to the biggest. Where the only price we could find was on a booking site, the card says so.

What a rug tufting class actually is
You draw or trace a design onto monk’s cloth stretched on a wooden frame, then fill it in with a handheld tufting gun that shoots yarn through the cloth. Most studios use cut-pile guns; a few offer loop pile. A small piece takes two to three hours; big rugs can take a full day.
When you finish, the back has to be glued and covered, and the pile trimmed and carved. Some studios do this in class; many keep the rug for a few days to a week and then call you to collect it, or post it. Check this before you book if you want to leave with it.
The guns are loud and vibrate, so studios hand out ear protection and set minimum ages, usually 10 to 16. Most charge by frame size, and the biggest rugs can cost several hundred dollars.
How prices work
- Tufting is priced by size. The starting prices on this list run from $45 for a mini or coaster to $500 for the largest rugs, with $89 the typical starting price.
- A few studios price per frame rather than per person, so two people can share one rug; the card says when.
- Yarn, cloth, backing and finishing are usually included. Some studios charge extra for rug pads, mirrors, shipping or rush finishing.
- Mall chains with walk-in hours often have the lowest entry prices; small studios with a set class time tend to cost more but include more help.
- 12 of the 63 prices come from a booking site rather than the studio’s own page. Booking sites sometimes add a fee or round prices, so check the studio’s page before you pay.

Questions people ask
How much does a rug tufting class cost?
The typical starting price on this list is $89 per person (the median of 63 published prices). Small pieces start around $45; large rugs can cost $500 or more.
How long does a tufting class take?
A typical session is about 2.5 hours for a small rug or mirror. Large rugs can take most of a day.
Can I take my rug home the same day?
Often not. The back needs gluing and covering, so many studios finish it for you and hand it over a few days to a week later, or ship it. Some finish it in class.
Is rug tufting hard for beginners?
No experience is needed. The gun takes a few minutes to get used to; staff help you load the yarn and keep the lines even.
Is there a minimum age?
Usually 10 to 16, because the guns are loud and powerful. Younger children can sometimes join with an adult; ask the studio.
Can I bring a group or book a private session?
Most studios run private sessions for birthdays and teams. Look for the “Private groups” label on each card.

How we checked, and who we are
We looked for every business in the US that runs public, bookable, in-person rug tufting classes: permanent studios, mall shops and the travelling teams that run pop-ups in hotels, galleries and community centres. For each location we read the studio’s own site or its own booking page and copied the price as printed, on 2026-10-25. Where a studio publishes no price, we say so instead of guessing. Online kits are left out.
Disclosure: WeekHere is published by KraftStories, which runs rug tufting classes itself. Its locations are in the same list, sorted by the same rules and marked “Our studio”. Brands that run at KraftStories’ addresses are marked “KraftStories network”. No studio paid to be listed, and none can pay to move up.
