One Day Zircar Casting
About
One Day Zircar Casting is a one-day workshop at UrbanGlass in Downtown Brooklyn on Sunday, October 18, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a short lunch break. Instructor Brooke Hamling, an artist working in cast glass and ceramics who is head of research and development at Zircar Luminar Glass Products, shows how to make reusable, palm-sized, open-faced floral and botanical moulds with Zircar Mold Mix 6 over pre-made wax positives. You then cast solid glass objects into the moulds in the hot shop. No previous experience is required and the minimum age is 14. The hot shop is loud and warm, and glass is molten at about 2000 degrees. Health and safety guidelines are emailed when you register. Several nights of cooling are needed, so you return to collect your work once notified. UrbanGlass does not print a price on the class page, so check the booking page for the current fee. UrbanGlass is at 647 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11217, in Downtown Brooklyn within a few blocks of Nevins St (2, 3, 4, 5), DeKalb Ave (B, Q, R) and Hoyt–Schermerhorn (A, C, G). The studio notes that classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date, so register early. It is the casting entry on our calendar for UrbanGlass: most of the studio's other classes this autumn are blowing, flameworking, fusing or neon, so this suits someone who has tried those and wants a moulded, sculptural result.
