Anatomical Sculpting (pt2): Hollow Work
About
Anatomical Sculpting (pt2): Hollow Work is an intermediate flameworking class at UrbanGlass in Downtown Brooklyn, listed for October 24 and 25 with sessions from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Instructor Ember Janal leads you in building a hollow borosilicate glass sculpture of human anatomy, covering adding bits, puffing out and sinking back, carving, stretching and basic seals. Students are expected to be comfortable working borosilicate at the torch and to have some knowledge of anatomy; Part 1 is not required. The minimum age is 14. The work is seated at the torch, in a bright and loud room, and handling glass and tools may require dexterity. Glass must cool overnight, so you return to collect your work once notified. Materials are planned according to enrollment, and the class page prints no price, so check the booking page for the current fee. UrbanGlass is at 647 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11217, in Downtown Brooklyn within a few blocks of Nevins St (2, 3, 4, 5), DeKalb Ave (B, Q, R) and Hoyt–Schermerhorn (A, C, G). The studio notes that classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date, so register early. It is the most specialised flameworking class on our calendar for UrbanGlass this season. Beginners looking for a first torch session are better served by Intro to Beads: Halloween! on October 21 or Create with Fire: Intro to Borosilicate Glass on October 28.
