Intro to Fusing: Fused Jewelry
About
Intro to Fusing: Fused Jewelry is a three-hour evening class at UrbanGlass in Downtown Brooklyn on Wednesday, October 21, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, taught by Catarina Cubelo. Working with assorted sheet glass, frits and stringers, you design a wearable piece, either a necklace or earrings. The class goes over assembly methods and hardware options. The glass is fused in a kiln and cools overnight, so you return to collect the finished piece once notified. No previous experience is required and the class is open to ages 12 and up. A particulate respirator mask is provided if you need one. Kilnforming involves both seated and standing work and some dexterity. The page does not say whether materials are included in the fee, and the class page prints no price, so check the booking page for the current fee. UrbanGlass is at 647 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11217, in Downtown Brooklyn within a few blocks of Nevins St (2, 3, 4, 5), DeKalb Ave (B, Q, R) and Hoyt–Schermerhorn (A, C, G). The studio notes that classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date, so register early. It is the jewellery option among UrbanGlass's fusing classes. Intro to Fusing: Glass Coasters follows on November 20 if you would rather make something for the home, and Fused and Soldered Glass Pendants runs on October 31.
