Intro to Beads: Halloween!
About
Intro to Beads: Halloween! is a three-hour evening class at UrbanGlass in Downtown Brooklyn on Wednesday, October 21, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Instructor Maria Aroche, who has practised flameworking since graduating from the Bead Project in 2007, teaches you to melt soft glass (COE 104) at the torch into a small collection of Halloween-themed beads such as pumpkins, witch hats and candy corn. You work with graphite paddles and moulds, gravity and temperature control, and the studio says to expect two to six successful pieces along with some failures. No previous experience is required and the minimum age is 12. The work is mostly seated, in a bright and loud room. Beads must cool overnight and come off their mandrels, so you return to collect them once notified. UrbanGlass does not print a price on the class page, so check the booking page for the current fee. UrbanGlass is at 647 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11217, in Downtown Brooklyn within a few blocks of Nevins St (2, 3, 4, 5), DeKalb Ave (B, Q, R) and Hoyt–Schermerhorn (A, C, G). The studio notes that classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date, so register early. On our calendar it is one of several beginner torch classes at UrbanGlass, alongside Fruit Glass Beads for Beginners on November 14 and Mushroom Glass Beads for Beginners on November 20; this is the Halloween-themed one.
