Stained Glass Suncatcher
About
Stained Glass Suncatcher is a one-day workshop at UrbanGlass in Downtown Brooklyn on Saturday, October 17, running 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Led by instructor Jessica Black, it teaches the copper-foil (Tiffany) method from start to finish: cutting and grinding glass, foiling the edges and soldering the pieces into a finished suncatcher of about 5 by 7 inches, using no more than ten pieces of glass. You can follow a beginner-friendly template or work with the instructor on a simple design of your own, and you leave with the completed piece. No experience is required, and intermediate students are welcome to brush up their technique. The minimum age is 14. UrbanGlass does not print a price on the class page, so check the booking page for the current fee. The studio notes that classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date, so register early. UrbanGlass is at 647 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11217, within a few blocks of Nevins St (2, 3, 4, 5), DeKalb Ave (B, Q, R) and Hoyt–Schermerhorn (A, C, G). On our calendar it sits alongside UrbanGlass's Stained Glass 101 (November 7) and the intermediate Stained Glass Projects course (November 4), and Craftsman Ave lists a Halloween stained-glass suncatcher on October 11, so this is the one for a single Saturday with no prior experience.
