Pumpkin-palooza (october, Afternoon Session)

Pumpkin-palooza is a three-hour glass workshop at UrbanGlass in Downtown Brooklyn on Sunday, October 11, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Instructor James Smith covers safety, applying colour and handling the tools, and you make colourful glass pumpkins. No experience is necessary and the minimum age is 14. This is the afternoon sitting of October's Pumpkin-palooza; the last 20 minutes or so are spent cleaning your workstation, which is included in the three hours. The hot shop is loud and hot, glass is worked at about 2000 degrees, and the work involves sitting, standing and lifting roughly 5 to 10 pounds. Health and safety guidelines are emailed when you register. Because the glass has to cool overnight, you come back to collect your work once the studio tells you it is ready. UrbanGlass does not print a price on the class page, so check the booking page for the current fee. UrbanGlass is at 647 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11217, in Downtown Brooklyn within a few blocks of Nevins St (2, 3, 4, 5), DeKalb Ave (B, Q, R) and Hoyt–Schermerhorn (A, C, G). The studio notes that classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date, so register early.
