Intro to Long Stitch
About
Intro to Long Stitch is a one-evening bookbinding workshop at the Center for Book Arts in Flatiron, Manhattan. Over three hours you learn how to take measurements, prepare the signatures and cover, and sew the long stitch binding, where the thread stays visible along the spine. Artists' books that use long stitch variations are shown during the session, and you leave with a finished book. Efrat Hakimi teaches. It runs in person on Tuesday 13 October from 6pm to 9pm, limited to 12 participants. The page does not state a level or a minimum age. The Center provides the materials at no extra cost. If you own a bonefolder, awl, snap-off blade, right-angle ruler or bookbinder's needle, bring them; otherwise the Center sells or lends tools. Bring a pencil and paper for notes. The listed price is $130, which the page breaks down as $105 tuition plus a $25 materials fee. Financial assistance is available by application. The Center is on the third floor at 28 West 27th St, New York, NY 10001, near 28th St (R, W) and 23rd St (F, M, 1). On the same calendar, the Center's Intro to Stab-Binding follows a week later on 20 October at the same price, and Paper Case Binding on 7 November costs $235.
