Spooky City: Faces and Places of Nyc
About
Spooky City: Faces and Places of NYC is a family Halloween day at the Museum of the City of New York on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 11 am to 3 pm. Drop-in activities run from 11 am to 2:45 pm: make a foam spider, decorate a candy bag, craft a Halloween mask or build a haunted city collage, follow a scavenger hunt (ages 5 and up) or solve a gallery mystery called Code Breakers (ages 9 and up). Timed programmes include a silhouette portrait workshop at 11:00 and 12:00 (30 places per session) and a story circle. At 1:15 pm live drumming and African dance from Brother Jerome Hunter of the LaRocque Bey School of Dance; the costume contest starts at 2:00 pm and a Monster Mash dance party with DJ Stormin Norman follows at 2:30. Contest categories are ages 0 to 5, 6 to 12, 13 to 18, and families and groups 18 and over, and the contest needs its own registration. Activities are designed for children aged three and up with their grown-ups. It is not a drop-off event: every child must stay with an adult and needs an RSVP, so include all guests when you buy online. Entry is included with museum admission. The page notes a member discount and discounts for groups of 10 or more, and prints no admission figures. The museum is at 1220 Fifth Avenue; take the 6 to 103rd St and walk two blocks west.
