The guide
How to do it: The best restaurants in Brooklyn
Brooklyn has some of the most varied food in the country, spread across neighbourhoods that are each a trip of their own: Brighton Beach’s Central Asian and Russian food, Sunset Park’s Chinese and Mexican, and the restaurants of Carroll Gardens, Red Hook and Williamsburg.
This is a long list to dip into, not to finish.
- The order to do it in
- One area per visit: Brighton Beach and around; Sunset Park; Red Hook to Fort Greene; Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
- When to go
- Lunch for the casual places; book dinner at Lilia, Le Crocodile, Cafe Kestrel and Red Hook Tavern.
- Getting there
- Subway for most; Red Hook needs the B61 bus or the NYC Ferry.
- What it costs
- From $3 tacos to $80+ a head at Lilia.
Worth knowing
- Hainan Chicken House and Claro have closed and are off the list.
- Cash is cheaper or required at several of the small places.
