Private Lessons
About
Private Lessons at Gasworks NYC are two-hour, one-on-one or small-group pottery sessions at the community clay studio on Fifth Avenue in South Slope, Brooklyn. The studio describes them as suited to tutoring, a family activity or a date night, for beginners and out-of-practice potters alike. Lessons run from 1:30pm to 3:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays, booked by email, ideally two to three weeks ahead. The teacher trims, glazes and fires your pieces, ready to collect about four weeks later. Groups of four or fewer keep two pots per person, groups of five or more keep one each, and extra pots cost $15. Tools, materials and aprons are provided. For children the page says ages 8 and up. Full refunds are available up to seven days before; later cancellations carry fees. Prices are $175 for one person, $250 for two, $350 for three, $450 for four and $550 for five. Gasworks is at 673 Fifth Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215. The R, F and G lines serve the area. For comparison on this calendar, BrickHouse Ceramic Art Center lists private pottery lessons at $95 for one hour and $185 for two hours, while La Mano Pottery and Mud Matters each list $170 per person for a two-hour session.
