Lantern Making Class
About
Lantern Making Class is a two-hour workshop at KraftStories' Financial District studio where you make a hand-drawn paper lantern shaped like a hot air balloon. You ink your own design onto a ribbed paper globe, attach a woven rattan basket and fit a warm-white LED. Motifs suggested on the page include rooftops, church spires, a crescent moon, stars, mountains, waves and a downtown skyline. Everything is included, from the paper globe, basket and hanging twine to the inks, brushes, stencils and light kit, and you take the finished lantern home the same day. The class is open to beginners and the studio lists it for ages 8 and up with an adult. Public sessions run from 5 to 30 people. The price is $99 per person. In-person public bookings can be cancelled for a refund up to two days before the session. The studio is at 93 Pearl St, 4th floor, New York, NY 10004, near Wall St (2, 3), Bowling Green (4, 5) and Broad St (J, Z). It is stairs-only with no elevator; the Midtown studio is the step-free option. It is the drawing-and-paper entry in the studio's lineup, in contrast to the glass-based mosaic lamp and candle holder classes in the same room, and a good choice if you would rather draw than cut and set glass.
