Intro to Stab-binding
About
Intro to Stab-Binding is a three-hour bookbinding workshop at the Center for Book Arts in Flatiron, New York. Stab binding is a method from East Asia that uses thread as both structure and ornament. In this class you learn the four-hole and the noble stab bindings, and you leave with two finished books. Efrat Hakimi teaches. The class meets in person on Tuesday 20 October 2026 from 6pm to 9pm and is limited to 12 participants. The page does not state a level or a minimum age. The Center provides the materials at no additional cost. Bring a pencil and paper. If you own a bonefolder, awl, snap-off blade, right-angle ruler, bookbinder's needle or binder clips, bring those too; the Center can sell or lend some. The listed price is $130, made up of $105 tuition and a $25 materials fee. Financial assistance is available through an application form. You will find the Center on the third floor at 28 West 27th St, New York, NY 10001. The nearest subway stops are 28th St (R, W) and 23rd St (F, M, 1). It sits between two other bindings at the Center: Intro to Long Stitch on 13 October is also $130, and Paper Case Binding on 7 November is $235.
