Intro to Printmaking I with Julia Elsas
About
Intro to Printmaking I with Julia Elsas is a five-week survey course at the Lower East Side Printshop, based on West 37th Street in Manhattan's Garment District. Students plan and print images using monotype, intaglio and relief techniques, which means inking plates, working with drypoint, cutting wood and linoleum blocks, tearing paper, setting up the press, modifying ink, using chine collé, registering and printing multiple plates. The studio uses non-toxic inks. Julia Elsas, a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist, teaches. Classes meet in person on Tuesdays from 6pm to 9pm, from 20 October to 17 November 2026, which adds up to the 15 hours of studio time named on the page. The fee covers all materials. The page does not state a level beyond the Intro title, nor a minimum age or capacity. Recent graduates (after May 2025) and current students receive a 20 percent discount by emailing the Printshop with a student ID. The price is $450, including all materials and 15 hours of studio time. The Printshop is at 306 West 37th Street, 6th Floor, New York, NY 10018, near 34th St-Penn Station (A, C, E, 1, 2, 3) and Times Sq (N, Q, R, W, 7). For comparison on this calendar, Art Lab lists Intaglio & Monotype Printmaking at $410 and Printmaking, What a Relief! at $395.
