Riso I: Foundations of Risograph Printing
About
Riso I: Foundations of Risograph Printing is a four-session course at the Center for Book Arts in Flatiron, Manhattan, taught by Nichole Shinn, an interdisciplinary artist and co-founder of the risograph zine publisher TXTbooks. You work hands-on with the Center's Risograph machine in collaborative teams, learn the basic operations, and explore how technical choices change the finished look. You take home a two-colour poster edition that you helped design and print. Classes meet in person on Mondays 19 October, 26 October, 2 November and 9 November 2026, from 6pm to 9pm each night, twelve hours in all. No prior printing experience is required, and the class is limited to 10 participants. The Center provides all materials and aprons. Bring a pencil and paper and clothes that can get stained. The page does not state a minimum age. The listed price is $445, which the page describes as $420 tuition plus a $25 materials fee. Financial assistance is available by application. The Center is on the third floor at 28 West 27th St, New York, NY 10001, near 28th St (R, W) and 23rd St (F, M, 1). Riso II, aimed at multipage zines, starts 19 November at $445, and the Robert Blackburn workshop runs a Risograph Printing Weekend on 7 November for $240 members or $290 non-members.
