Marbling with Acrylic Paint
About
Marbling with Acrylic Paint is a full-day workshop at the Center for Book Arts in Flatiron, taught by Sheryl Oppenheim. You learn to prepare a thickened water bath, mix acrylic paint for it, and work in your own tray to make two classic patterns, stone and combed. The day also covers the history of marbling and traditional recipes. Expect to take home roughly 15 to 25 sheets of marbled paper, up to 11 by 14 inches, plus one or two larger sheets at 12 by 18 inches. It takes place in person on Saturday 17 October 2026 from 11am to 5pm, and class size is limited to 10. The page does not state a level or minimum age. It says the Center provides the materials at no additional cost. When the page was read, registration was shown as closed, so check availability before planning to come. The listed price is $260, which the page breaks down as $210 tuition plus a $50 materials fee. A financial assistance application is available. The Center is on the third floor at 28 West 27th St, New York, NY 10001, close to 28th St (R, W) and 23rd St (F, M, 1). Its online Suminagashi Marbling class on 3 November is the Japanese-style alternative, on a pay-what-you-can scale.
