Public Volunteer Day (full Day)
About
Billion Oyster Project invites the public to help with its oyster reef restoration work. Our listing places this session at the Battery Maritime Building, 10 South Street, the Lower Manhattan terminal for Governors Island ferries. This is the full-day version, shown here as a Friday session starting at 9:30 am. The volunteering page does not describe full-day shifts or name the weekday: it says public volunteering is typically available Tuesday to Saturday, and its sample session at the Battery Maritime Building runs three hours, from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. Check the booking calendar for current full-day dates. The work is hands-on and outdoors: sorting, shovelling, cleaning and crushing oyster shell, mixing concrete, casting reef structures and tidying the site. Staff walk you through tools and safety. Expect to lift up to about 15 pounds, stand for long stretches and get dirty. Volunteers must be 18 or over; 16 and 17-year-olds can join with a guardian. The page prints no price, and our listing records the day as free. New dates are released on the 15th of each month, and you book a specific date that shows spots available. South Ferry (1), Whitehall St (R/W) and Bowling Green (4/5) are all close. Our calendar lists a second Public Volunteer Day at the same venue.
