The guide
How to do it: Lost on the windward side
The windward side has the scenery Lost is remembered for: Kualoa’s green cliffs and the long valley where the Dharma sets stood. The temple in the Valley of the Temples played Korea.
Three stops, half a day, and the most beautiful drive on the island in between.
- The order to do it in
- Byodo-In first while it’s quiet, then up the coast to Kualoa for a booked tour. The fishpond is seen from the tour.
- When to go
- Mornings, before clouds sit on the cliffs. Kualoa tours sell out, so book days ahead.
- Getting there
- About 40 minutes from Waikīkī over the Likelike or Pali highway.
- What it costs
- Byodo-In $10 adults; Kualoa’s Movie Sites tour about $60.
Worth knowing
- Byodo-In takes cards only, no cash.
- Kualoa is a working cattle ranch; stay with your tour.
