The guide
How to do it: Lost on the North Shore
The North Shore is where the survivors lived: the beach camp, the jungle walks and the Others’ barracks were all a short drive apart along Farrington and Kamehameha highways.
Six stops make a full, easy day, with the best of the North Shore food and beaches in between.
- The order to do it in
- Start west at Camp Erdman and Dillingham Airfield, then the sugar mill in Waialua, Papailoa Beach, Waimea Valley, and finish at the Kawela Bay banyans near Turtle Bay.
- When to go
- Summer for calm water if you want to swim between stops. Waimea Valley is closed Mondays.
- Getting there
- About an hour’s drive from Waikīkī to Haleʻiwa, longer in traffic or on big-surf days. Park legally on the highway shoulders; tickets are common.
- What it costs
- Waimea Valley is the only paid stop ($26 adults). Budget for shrimp or shave ice in Haleʻiwa.
Worth knowing
- Camp Erdman and the airfield are working sites. Look from the road.
- Laniākea turtles are on the way; slow down for people crossing.
