The guide
How to do it: Lost downtown, on foot
Downtown Honolulu stood in for London, Seoul, Sydney and Los Angeles. Most of the scenes are within a twenty-minute walk of each other between Chinatown and the State Capitol, which makes this the easiest Lost list to do without a car.
It doubles as a walk through Honolulu’s old business district, with Chinatown’s bakeries and bars on the way.
- The order to do it in
- Start in Chinatown at Marin Lane and Nuʻuanu Ave, walk Fort Street Mall to King Street, then Aliʻiōlani Hale, the Capitol and the post office. Finish at Liliha Bakery or an Irish pub.
- When to go
- A weekday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the lobbies and the courthouse are open.
- Getting there
- TheBus from Waikīkī, or park in the Chinatown municipal lots on Smith or Beretania St.
- What to bring
- Comfortable shoes and water. Downtown is hot at midday.
- What it costs
- Free, apart from what you eat and drink.
Worth knowing
- The bank and the YWCA are working buildings: photograph the outside.
- Aliʻiōlani Hale’s Judiciary History Center is free on weekdays.
