The guide
How to do it: Every Lost location you can visit
Lost was shot almost entirely on Oʻahu, and the island played everywhere from Sydney and Seoul to Iraq and a tropical island with no name. Most of the scenes were shot in places anyone can walk to: a public beach, a downtown street corner, a bakery counter.
This list keeps only those. Private homes, closed sets and the valleys you can only reach on a ranch tour are marked, so you know before you drive. It’s too much for one day; treat it as three, one side of the island at a time.
- The order to do it in
- Day one, the North Shore: the beach camp, Waimea Valley, the sugar mill and the banyans. Day two, downtown Honolulu on foot, where London, Seoul and Sydney are all a few blocks apart. Day three, the windward side: Kualoa and the temple.
- When to go
- Any time of year. Downtown is easiest on a weekday, when the offices and the courthouse are open; the North Shore beaches are calmest in summer.
- Getting there
- You need a car for the North Shore and windward days. Downtown is a 15-minute drive or a TheBus ride from Waikīkī (the 2, 13 and 20 go through); park in a municipal lot and walk.
- What to bring
- Screenshots of the scenes, so you can line up the shots. Water and sunscreen for the North Shore.
- What it costs
- Most stops are free. Waimea Valley ($26), Byodo-In ($10) and a Kualoa movie tour (about $60) are the big ones.
Worth knowing
- Papailoa Beach is public but the land behind it is private; walk on from the sand.
- Kualoa’s valleys are tour only. Book the Movie Sites tour, not the UTV, if the film sets are why you’re going.
