Dear You

About

Dear You is a Chinese drama directed by Lan Hongchun, a Special Presentation in the Spotlight on China at the Hawaiʻi International Film Festival (HIFF46). Broke and aimless Xiaowei travels from Chaoshan to Thailand to find a long-lost grandfather who may have left a fortune. What starts as a comedy deepens as he learns, through qiaopi letters and remittances sent home by overseas Chinese, about the love and sacrifice that kept his grandmother waiting for fifty years. HIFF notes it became a sleeper hit in China. The film runs 118 minutes and is in Teochew with English subtitles per HIFF's lineup. No rating is printed. This screening is not on Oʻahu. It plays at The Palace Theater, 38 Haili Street, Hilo, on Hawaiʻi Island, on November 15 at 4:30 PM. HIFF says tickets are sold through the venue's own site, hilopalace.com, and fees may apply. No ticket price is printed. The same day at The Palace Theater, the calendar lists Protecting Kahoʻolawe at noon, Chura Vita at 2:00 PM and Drifter at 7:00 PM. Oʻahu viewers can note that HIFF's box office page also lists Dear You at Consolidated Theatres Kahala on October 23, 24 and 26.
