Pacific Showcase Shorts: Where We Belong
About
Pacific Showcase Shorts: Where We Belong is a program of seven short films from across the Pacific, shown at the Hawaiʻi International Film Festival (HIFF46) neighbor island encore on Maui. This screening is not on Oʻahu. It plays at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, 1 Cameron Way, Kahului. The lineup mixes documentary and story shorts about identity and belonging. Iakwe: Hello Goodbye follows a Marshallese salesman meeting relatives in Arkansas, Lani profiles the first LPGA golfer to represent Samoa, and Ohana Vendors portrays a blind Chuukese-Guamanian woman finding purpose in Honolulu. The Platform, The Rapture, Of the Land and Tamai round out the set, with filmmakers from Hawaiʻi, the United States and Aotearoa New Zealand. HIFF's pages do not print a total runtime, language details or a rating, and some themes are mature, so it is best suited to teens and adults. The showing is on November 15 at 1:00 PM. Tickets for most neighbor island screenings are sold through the venue's own site, mauiarts.org, and no price is printed on HIFF's page. On the same day, the calendar also lists Lahaina: Voices of Change with Kūkulu at the same venue at 3:00 PM and Making the Line there at 6:00 PM. The companion program, Pacific Showcase Shorts: Tracing Home, plays in Waimea on November 8.
