Fingerless Mitts

About

Design and knit a pair of wool fingerless mitts on a knitting machine, learning a mock-rib cuff and two-color Fair Isle patterning with a punchcard after a short machine primer. The class runs 9am–2pm Sunday at The Seattle Knitting Lab, 2208 NW Market St #311 in Ballard (RapidRide D Line and route 44 on NW Market St), costs $200 with materials included, and suits complete beginners. The studio runs the same class again on 24 January.

New to textiles?

Textile classes range from weaving on a frame or rigid-heddle loom to embroidery, knitting, crochet, natural dyeing, felting and sewing a first garment.

  • Check whether the class is for complete beginners or assumes you can already cast on or thread a machine.
  • Single sessions usually make something small: a wall hanging, a hoop, a dyed scarf.
  • Bring reading glasses if you use them; most fibre work is close-up.

Taking it home: Usually the same day. Larger pieces may be finished at home with the yarn or thread you leave with.
