The Cowl Class

About

A beginner workshop where you design and machine-knit your own two-color patterned wool cowl, starting with a quick introduction to the machine and a practice swatch; each student has a machine to themselves. It runs 9am–1pm Sunday at The Seattle Knitting Lab, 2208 NW Market St #311 in Ballard (RapidRide D Line and route 44 on NW Market St). The class costs $200 with all materials supplied, and no knitting experience is needed. A fingerless mitts class follows on 13 December.

New to textiles?

Textile classes range from weaving on a frame or rigid-heddle loom to embroidery, knitting, crochet, natural dyeing, felting and sewing a first garment.

  • Check whether the class is for complete beginners or assumes you can already cast on or thread a machine.
  • Single sessions usually make something small: a wall hanging, a hoop, a dyed scarf.
  • Bring reading glasses if you use them; most fibre work is close-up.

Taking it home: Usually the same day. Larger pieces may be finished at home with the yarn or thread you leave with.
