Botanical Relief Block Printing
About
Seattle artist and illustrator Anneke Wilder teaches linocut relief printing with plant motifs; you leave with a set of hand-printed cards and a starter kit for printing at home. The three-hour class runs 1–4pm Saturday in the Douglas Headhouse at the Center for Urban Horticulture, 3501 NE 41st St (Metro routes 65 and 75). It costs $85 with supplies, and advance registration is required. A shorter holiday-card printmaking workshop follows here on 5 December.

New to printmaking?
Printmaking classes cover ways of making an image you can print more than once: carving lino or wood blocks, screen printing, monotypes, etching or letterpress.
- Block printing and monotype are the friendliest starts; etching and letterpress need more studio time.
- Inks stain. Wear old clothes and expect to wash up at the end.
- You usually leave with an edition of several prints, not just one.
Taking it home: Usually the same day, once the ink is dry enough to carry. Oil-based prints may need a few days.
