Felting Fun: Sailor Slippers

About

Knit a pair of oversized wool slippers, then shrink them into dense felt in the washing machine, in this three-week introduction to felted designs with Keeley. It meets Wednesdays November 4, 11 and 18, 5–7pm, at The Nifty Knitter, 317 NW Gilman Blvd in Issaquah (about 15 minutes' walk from Issaquah Transit Center, Sound Transit 554). The fee is $95; yarn and needles follow the pattern, which you bring, and are not included.

How it compares

  • After work
  • Take it home the same day

At $95, this sits about the middle of the 22 single-session textiles classes we list in Seattle. They run from $10 to $300, and the typical price is $60.

That works out to about $48 an hour for a 2-hour session.

If one session leaves you wanting more, 1 studio we list runs multi-week textiles courses, from $80.

It starts after work, which only 24% of the textiles classes on our calendar do.

New to textiles?

Textile classes range from weaving on a frame or rigid-heddle loom to embroidery, knitting, crochet, natural dyeing, felting and sewing a first garment.

  • Check whether the class is for complete beginners or assumes you can already cast on or thread a machine.
  • Single sessions usually make something small: a wall hanging, a hoop, a dyed scarf.
  • Bring reading glasses if you use them; most fibre work is close-up.

Taking it home: Usually the same day. Larger pieces may be finished at home with the yarn or thread you leave with.
