Shoreline, river, garden, compost and street-tree shifts you can join without paying or knowing anything. Most groups lend gloves and tools; several ask for a waiver or one orientation shift first, which is on the card.

What lands on this page
These are free events that people do not think of as events, which is exactly why they are hard to find. They are also the most reliably available thing on this calendar: standing weekly shifts rather than one-off dates, running from spring into late autumn. The catch is capacity, not cost — the good ones fill a week ahead, so book rather than turn up.
