About

An 8-hour weekend course at Studio Cassio, Via Urbana 98 in Monti, in which you make a 25 x 20 cm marble mosaic in the indirect technique, cutting stone with the traditional hammer and hardie. A mosaic class teaches you to cut or arrange tile, glass or ceramic pieces on a base, glue them down and grout the gaps — on a tray, a stepping stone, a mirror frame or a lamp.

  • Beginner sessions use pre-cut pieces; longer courses teach cutting with nippers.
  • Two to three hours is typical for a single piece.
  • Grouting is the messy part, so wear clothes you can wash.

Taking it home: Often the same day, though a grouted piece may need a day to set before it is handled much.
