Halftone Magic: Screenprint Your Photos
About
Bring a digital photo and learn to convert it to a halftone in Photoshop, then screenprint it in the print studio. Henry Voellmecke leads the four-hour workshop from 10am to 2pm on Sunday, November 22, at Lillstreet Art Center, 4401 N Ravenswood Ave (Montrose Brown Line). The fee is $170 ($165 members) plus $20 for materials. A second session runs December 13.

New to printmaking?
Printmaking classes cover ways of making an image you can print more than once: carving lino or wood blocks, screen printing, monotypes, etching or letterpress.
- Block printing and monotype are the friendliest starts; etching and letterpress need more studio time.
- Inks stain. Wear old clothes and expect to wash up at the end.
- You usually leave with an edition of several prints, not just one.
Taking it home: Usually the same day, once the ink is dry enough to carry. Oil-based prints may need a few days.
