How it compares

  • Weekend
  • Take it home the same day

At $15, this sits toward the low end of the 11 single-session textiles classes we list in Chicago. They run from $5 to $190, and the typical price is $83.

That works out to about $8 an hour for a 2-hour session.

If one session leaves you wanting more, 1 studio we list runs multi-week textiles courses.

New to textiles?

Textile classes range from weaving on a frame or rigid-heddle loom to embroidery, knitting, crochet, natural dyeing, felting and sewing a first garment.

  • Check whether the class is for complete beginners or assumes you can already cast on or thread a machine.
  • Single sessions usually make something small: a wall hanging, a hoop, a dyed scarf.
  • Bring reading glasses if you use them; most fibre work is close-up.

Taking it home: Usually the same day. Larger pieces may be finished at home with the yarn or thread you leave with.
