The Sparks Fly Upward: a Kristallnacht Commemoration

About

The museum marks the 88th anniversary of Kristallnacht with a live presentation of selections from Cathy Lesser Mansfield's The Sparks Fly Upward, which follows two Jewish families and one Christian family on the same Berlin street through 1938. Thirteen singers, a string quartet and piano perform alongside narration and archival images, and the afternoon closes with a six-candle memorial lighting, Kaddish and Oseh Shalom. It begins at 2:30pm Sunday at the Illinois Holocaust Museum, 9603 Woods Dr, Skokie; it's free, reservations are required, and other exhibits are closed during the program.
