Exhibition Opening Program: Hollywood on Trial: the Blacklist and the Red Scare
About
A conversation launching the exhibition Blacklist: The Hollywood Red Scare, on how the 1947 HUAC hearings into supposed Communist influence in Hollywood produced the blacklist, who it hurt and why the film industry became a political battleground. Brandeis historian Thomas Doherty, author of Show Trial, and curator Ellie Gettinger speak, with film critic Richard Roeper moderating. It begins at 2:30pm Sunday at the Illinois Holocaust Museum, 9603 Woods Dr, Skokie; free, with reservations required. The exhibition, from Jewish Museum Milwaukee, is on view Nov 1, 2026 to Apr 11, 2027.
