Treasure Fit for a Queen: Royal Burials from El-kurru, Sudan
About
In this joint ARCE–ISAC lecture, Denise Doxey of Boston's Museum of Fine Arts looks at the jewelry and vessels buried with royal women at el-Kurru in northern Sudan in the eighth century BCE, under King Piankhy. She traces what these objects show about exchange between Kush and its northern neighbors alongside distinctly Nubian traditions. It runs 5–6pm Saturday at ISAC, 1155 E 58th St (Metra Electric 55th-56th-57th St); attendance is free with registration, and a Zoom option is also offered.
