Spotlight Sundays: Japanese American Legacies of Resistance

About

Tied to OMCA's exhibition BeHere / 1942, this programme opens with remarks by director Lori Fogarty, then guest speakers Satsuki Ina and Miya Sommers, hosted by Joemy Ito-Gates, discuss how wartime incarceration shaped their activism and healing work, before a TaikoPeace performance honouring early Japanese immigrants. It runs Sunday, November 15, 1–2:30 PM in the James Moore Theater, followed by a Call to Action with protest-art activities led by Japanese American Families for Justice, Nikkei Resisters and Tsuru for Solidarity until 3:30 PM, at 1000 Oak Street, Oakland, about a block from Lake Merritt BART. Tickets are $10 all-inclusive, on sale October 30 (members October 28). Margaret Yee's gallery chat on the same exhibition on November 7 is also on our calendar.
