About
A 90-minute introduction to cutting glass, covering straight scores, curves and pattern pieces, required before most other classes at the studio and useful as a refresher. Saturday 5 December, 9 to 10:30am, at Inspiration Glass Studio, 40212 Industrial Park Cir, Ste 101, Georgetown; $35. An earlier session runs 7 November.

New to glass?
Glass classes split into fused glass (cutting and layering sheet glass that is melted in a kiln), stained glass (cut pieces joined with copper foil and solder) and hot glass (blowing or flameworking at a furnace or torch).
- Closed-toe shoes and natural-fibre clothing for hot-glass sessions; studios provide eye protection.
- Fused and stained glass suit a first visit. Glassblowing tasters are short and guided closely.
- Hot-glass classes are small and sell out first, especially before holidays.
Taking it home: Rarely on the day. Fused pieces go back in the kiln and blown glass cools overnight, so expect to collect it later or have it shipped.
