A half-day class in printing your own book cloth with cyanotype, the sun-developed blueprint process, for use in later bindings. It runs Sunday, Nov 8, 10am–2pm, at the Austin Book Arts Center, 5501 N Lamar Blvd, Ste C125 (MetroRapid 801 runs along North Lamar nearby). New to printmaking?
Printmaking classes cover ways of making an image you can print more than once: carving lino or wood blocks, screen printing, monotypes, etching or letterpress.
- Block printing and monotype are the friendliest starts; etching and letterpress need more studio time.
- Inks stain. Wear old clothes and expect to wash up at the end.
- You usually leave with an edition of several prints, not just one.
Taking it home: Usually the same day, once the ink is dry enough to carry. Oil-based prints may need a few days.
