Enamel Jewelry
About
Mariela Lopez teaches the basics of fusing colored glass to metal: you cut copper blanks with a hydraulic press and saw, then sift enamel onto them, ending up with a stacked pendant or a pair of earrings. The class runs from 10am to 5pm at The Jeweler's Saw, 2801 S I-35 Frontage Rd, Suite 170, and all levels are welcome. It costs $260, made up of $210 tuition plus a $50 kit fee.

How it compares
- Weekend
- Take it home the same day
No other studio on our calendar in Austin runs jewelry classes right now, so this is the place to go for one.
New to jewelry?
Jewelry classes teach you to saw, file, solder and polish metal into a ring, pendant or earrings, or to work with beads, wire and chain.
- Ring-making is the classic first class; you often leave with a finished silver band.
- Tie back long hair and wear closed-toe shoes at the bench, since torches are involved.
- Silver and gold may be priced on top of the class fee; the listing says when.
Taking it home: Usually the same day, polished and ready to wear.
