Tetra Pak Printing
About
A two-day printmaking workshop that turns used drink cartons into intaglio plates, so students can pull etching-style prints on the center's press without acid or metal plates. Illustrator Anna Boxall guides two small projects; bring a couple of pencil sketches or design ideas. It meets Saturday and Sunday, Oct 24–25, 10am–4pm, at 5501 N Lamar Blvd, Ste C125 (MetroRapid 801 runs along North Lamar nearby). Tuition is $300 plus $15 materials, listed as $315 ($283.50 for members).

How it compares
- Date night
- Weekend
No other studio on our calendar in Austin runs printmaking classes right now, so this is the place to go for one.
Not ready to commit to a course? 1 studio offers one-time printmaking classes, a cheaper way to find out if you like it.
New to printmaking?
Printmaking classes cover ways of making an image you can print more than once: carving lino or wood blocks, screen printing, monotypes, etching or letterpress.
- Block printing and monotype are the friendliest starts; etching and letterpress need more studio time.
- Inks stain. Wear old clothes and expect to wash up at the end.
- You usually leave with an edition of several prints, not just one.
Taking it home: Usually the same day, once the ink is dry enough to carry. Oil-based prints may need a few days.
