Introduction to Finishing
About
A two-day weekend course on wood finishes: why surfaces need them, the basic science behind them and the difference between dry and cured, with hands-on practice applying paints, waxes, oils, lacquers, polyurethanes and shellac to a sample board you keep. It meets Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, 9am to 5pm both days, at the Austin School of Furniture & Design, 1600 W Stassney Ln. Tuition is listed at $325, marked down from $425.

- Closed-toe shoes and no loose sleeves; the studio provides eye and ear protection.
- Carving classes are quiet and hand-tool only; shop classes use machines under supervision.
- Many shop classes require an intro or safety session before open-shop time.
Taking it home: Usually the same day; an oil finish may need a day to cure.
