Blackberry Dye Workshop

About

A hands-on session dyeing a T-shirt, tote bag or bandana with dye made from blackberries pulled from local parks, while talking with restoration staff and neighbors. It takes place Saturday, November 14 from 1 to 2:30 pm in Classroom A of the Tukwila Community Center, 12424 42nd Ave S (arrive by 2 pm). It is free with all materials supplied, open to all ages (under-14s with a parent or guardian), and requires individual registration; wear clothes that can get stained. It follows EarthCorps' Codiga Park work party that morning.

New to textiles?

Textile classes range from weaving on a frame or rigid-heddle loom to embroidery, knitting, crochet, natural dyeing, felting and sewing a first garment.

  • Check whether the class is for complete beginners or assumes you can already cast on or thread a machine.
  • Single sessions usually make something small: a wall hanging, a hoop, a dyed scarf.
  • Bring reading glasses if you use them; most fibre work is close-up.

Taking it home: Usually the same day. Larger pieces may be finished at home with the yarn or thread you leave with.
