Basic Carpentry and Woodworking
About
A hands-on introduction for adults with little or no shop experience: you plan, measure, cut and assemble a simple wooden toolbox while learning to use affordable handheld power tools safely, plus practical tips for home projects. Classes meet Mondays from November 2 to November 16, 5:30–9pm, in the Wood Lab at Seattle Central's Wood Technology Center, 2310 S Lane St. The fee is $349; bring eye, hearing and dust protection, pencils and work clothes. How it compares
- After work
- Take it home the same day
At $349, this is the most expensive of the 8 single-session woodworking classes we list in Seattle. They run from $60 to $349, and the typical price is $275.
That works out to about $100 an hour for a 3.5-hour session.
If one session leaves you wanting more, 1 studio we list runs multi-week woodworking courses, from $225.
It starts after work, which only 18% of the woodworking classes on our calendar do.

New to woodworking?
Woodworking classes cover spoon and bowl carving, joinery, small furniture such as a stool or cutting board, and safe use of hand and power tools.
- Closed-toe shoes and no loose sleeves; the studio provides eye and ear protection.
- Carving classes are quiet and hand-tool only; shop classes use machines under supervision.
- Many shop classes require an intro or safety session before open-shop time.
Taking it home: Usually the same day; an oil finish may need a day to cure.
