Kinusaiga: Japanese Art of Painting with Fabric
About
A beginner workshop in kinusaiga, where fabric pieces are tucked into grooves cut along a sketched design to build an 8x8-inch fabric mosaic, with no needle or thread involved. It runs Sunday 13 December, 1pm to 4pm, at the San Diego Craft Collective, 2590 Truxtun Rd, Studio 106, Liberty Station (MTS Route 28 runs along Rosecrans St by Liberty Station), for ages 14+; you may bring your own scraps. It is $105 plus a $5 cash materials fee. A Winter Fairy House needle-felt class runs that morning.

At $105, this is the most expensive of the 10 single-session painting classes we list in San Diego. They run from $15 to $105, and the typical price is $43.
That works out to about $35 an hour for a 3-hour session.
If one session leaves you wanting more, 3 studios we list run multi-week painting courses, from $150.
It is on a weekend, which only 28% of the painting classes on our calendar are.

New to painting?
Painting and drawing classes run from relaxed one-night sessions that guide you to a finished canvas to multi-week courses in watercolour, oils, figure drawing or illustration.
- Guided one-night classes suit groups and first-timers; courses suit people who want to improve.
- Figure-drawing sessions use a live model and are usually for adults only.
- Materials are usually included in one-off classes; courses often send a supply list.
Taking it home: The same day, though acrylic and oil may need a few hours to dry before they travel well.
