Liberty Station First Friday
About
The textile museum stays open late on the first Friday of each month, showing a different piece from its permanent collection each time (in November, Jean C. Liittschwager's 1988 quilt Night Flight Over a City) with a chance to meet textile artists and join a seasonal craft session open to all levels. It runs 5pm to 7:30pm at Visions Art Museum, 2825 Dewey Rd, Suite 100, Liberty Station (MTS Route 28 runs along Rosecrans St by Liberty Station); the next dates are 6 November and 4 December, and the museum skips months when it is installing or holding its Veranda Sale. Admission is free. Opening-weekend artist talks for the current shows take place on 24 October.

It is free. Most textiles classes in San Diego are not: the paid ones we list start at $25.
It starts after work, which only 14% of the textiles classes on our calendar do.

New to textiles?
Textile classes range from weaving on a frame or rigid-heddle loom to embroidery, knitting, crochet, natural dyeing, felting and sewing a first garment.
- Check whether the class is for complete beginners or assumes you can already cast on or thread a machine.
- Single sessions usually make something small: a wall hanging, a hoop, a dyed scarf.
- Bring reading glasses if you use them; most fibre work is close-up.
Taking it home: Usually the same day. Larger pieces may be finished at home with the yarn or thread you leave with.
