The Art of Butoh

About

Kumiko Uyeda traces Butoh from its 1950s origins in Japan to the Bay Area scene that grew around Koichi and Hiroko Tamano and later Judith Kajiwara, and the evening then moves to a staging of Uninterrupted Rest: A Butoh Awakening, choreographed and danced by Kajiwara with Erika Oba on flute and Uyeda on piano. It starts at 6 pm on Thursday, Nov 19 in the Phyllis Wattis Theater on Floor 1 of SFMOMA, 151 Third St, a short walk from Montgomery St BART/Muni. Free with RSVP. Kajiwara also leads a free Butoh family workshop at the museum on Sunday, Nov 22, already on our calendar.
